In the standard format for Midland Counties Publications' Irish Railway Pictorial series, the primary focus of this book is on locomotives. However, notable photos include Inchicore Works mechanical coaling plant, Banagher station, coal dock on the Suir at Waterford, the attractive two arch road overbridge at Horse and Jockey (since demolished), Cashel station, Ennis Station, Gleensk Viaduct and Cahirciveen Viaduct on the line to Valentia Harbour, Cobh in pre rationalisation days, the long vanished Dunkettle, Prospect Hill tunnel in Galway City and Castlecomer. One significant error is in the introduction, when the author states "Saorstát Éireann became Eire or the Republic of Ireland in 1937 under the new constitution." The Republic of Ireland did not come into being until 1949. The author also states that the GSR was statute bound the new Language Act to display bilingual signs. I can find no reference to such an Act, however, they were statute bound to do so under s. 69 of the Railways Act of 1924. On page 40, the narratives have been misplaced - the upper photo is Clonsilla and the lower one Kilmessan.
